Frequently asked questions
What do I need to run Pagina?
An iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or later. Pagina is a one-time purchase: no subscription, no ads, and no account to create.
How do I add the widget to my Home Screen?
Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit and then Add Widget, and search for Pagina. Choose the large size (or extra large on iPad) to get the page-turn buttons. The app's onboarding walks you through the same steps, and Settings has a "How do I add the widget?" button that shows them again.
The widget shows no text or an old page.
Open a book in the app once; the widget always follows the book you opened last. If it still looks stale, remove the widget and add it again. Widgets are refreshed by iOS, so a change can occasionally take a moment to appear.
How do I import my own books?
Pagina reads DRM-free EPUB files. Use the import button in the library, pick the files in the Files app, and they appear in your library. You can also tap an EPUB anywhere in iOS and choose Open in Pagina.
Why does my EPUB fail to import?
The most common cause is DRM (copy protection): books bought in most commercial stores cannot be opened, and Pagina tells you so. If a DRM-free file fails, please email it to us so we can fix the importer.
Can I change the font or the text size?
Yes. Tap "Aa" while reading, or the gear in the library. You get six classic fonts, a text size slider, line spacing, margins, and a light, dark or automatic appearance. You also choose what dark means for you: a soft gray page, or true black for an OLED screen at night. Your reading position is kept when you change any of them.
How do I get rid of the buttons while reading?
Tap the middle of the page. The controls and the status bar step aside and the text takes the whole screen; tap the middle again to bring them back. The left and right thirds of the page turn back and forward, and swiping works anywhere.
Can I lock the screen orientation?
Yes, on iPhone. Tap "Aa" while reading and then the padlock at the top left: the orientation of that moment is pinned, which is what you want when you are reading while lying down. On iPad, use the orientation lock in Control Center.
How does a page count towards my stats?
Only when you actually read it. A page counts when you have had it open long enough for its amount of text and then turn forward, in the reader or on the widget. Jumping through the book with the scrubber does not count, and rereading a book you have finished keeps your streak alive.
Are my reading stats shared anywhere?
Never with us or anyone else. Stats and streaks are computed on your device; if you are signed in to iCloud they sync between your own devices through your personal iCloud, which Pagina cannot see. See the privacy policy.
How does sync between my devices work?
If your iPhone and iPad use the same iCloud account, your reading position, stats and streak follow you automatically: turn pages on one device, and the other continues where you left off. Add the same book on both devices (two taps in Discover) and it opens on your current page. There is nothing to set up, and without iCloud the app simply works locally.
How do I report a rights issue with a book?
The books in Pagina come from the public domain via Project Gutenberg. If you believe a title is offered in error, email ios.pagina.app@gmail.com and it will be reviewed promptly. See also book sources.
